I have known Catherine Parnell for over three decades; known her first as a writer of beautiful short stories, then as a superb editor, and always as a loyal and most dependable friend. Her gift as an editor is marked by her deep understanding of the complex ways that grammar and syntax become agents of lucid creation, but also by the genuine devotion she displays in all of her endeavors. She is utterly committed to clarity and convincing sentences.  

I recommended her to the eminent poet David Ferry when he need someone to help him complete his magisterial translation of Virgil’s Aeneid. I could not imagine a writer/editor better suited to step in when George Kovach passed away and Consequence Magazine needed someone at the helm; someone as scrupulous and gracious and dignified as George.

 For all of these reasons, I have no hesitation in recommending Catherine Parnell most highly. Her skills as an editor are the exacting, generous mark of the person.
