Micros & More

Flash Fiction and Nonfiction Workshop
Taught by MicroLit Almanac Editor Cat Parnell
Sunday, April 24-Saturday, April 30
(one week)
$110
Class limit: 6

Creative burnout strikes the best of us and often the best way around it is to join a community dedicated to igniting new creative flames. Micros & More focuses on short fiction and nonfiction, anywhere between 300 and 1000 words, flash work that leaves a lasting effect on readers. The workshop emphasizes mutual respect and encouragement, as well as seasoned writing advice.  In keeping with Birch Bark Editing’s mission, Micros & More focuses on creating and sustaining a supportive community, an added gift in the writing world.

In flash, tight, compressed and clear prose is essential. In Micros & More elements of craft and technique will be addressed within some key considerations that drive prose. These considerations – or what we will refer to as Micro Principles –  will be detailed when each prompt is published. The Micros & More course runs from Sunday, April 24-Saturday, April 30, and prompts will be dropped on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday. An optional prompt will be dropped on Saturday.

Hosted on an online platform that enables dedicated 24/7 interaction without set meeting times, Micros & More allows writers to adjust their writing time to get the most out of the workshop. Limited to six participants, Micros & More is intended for fiction and nonfiction writers of all levels eager for an inspirational review of flash elements. The generative writing prompts will be followed by an in-depth workshop conversation and feedback from writer, editor and educator Cat Parnell. (A one-on-one conversation with the instructor is available for an additional $25 fee.)  Questions? Email BirchBarkEditing@gmail.com.

Jumpstart your flash and polish your prose!
