May 2022

Dear Friends,

It’s May and we’re emerging. We hope you are too. It’s not long before you’ll find us at the beach.

Many thanks to those of you who came out to hear Erica Plouffe Lazure and Jill McCorkle talk about their books and life as writers. If you haven’t seen it, here’s the video link. Our Micros & More online flash workshop was exhilarating and the participants all generated exciting new work based on the readings and a series of prompts. Our conversation ranged from process to content to fraught topics. Look for more offerings below and on our website.

Here’s our May line-up!

May 17: Our next BBE InConversation is with June Gervais, author of Jobs for Girls with Artistic Flair, and Shawna Kay Rodenberg, author of Kin. They will read from their books and examine the art of memoir and storytelling.

The magic of Mix & Meet continues with incredibly productive writing. Prompts and prose! An added bonus: work by Mix & Meet writers is automatically submitted to MicroLit Almanac! Join us Tuesday, May 10 at 5 PM Eastern.

Stay tuned for our next flash class, Moments in Miniature, with MaxieJane Frazier. Let’s take a journey into micro creative writing where we distill meaning into its richest form. Over the course of Moments in Miniature, we’ll travel the map of micro creative writing, reading from inspiring authors in this abbreviated form. Responding to four prompts (there will be a fifth bonus prompt) over 10 days, people in this class will produce flash fiction/nonfiction with varying set limitations from 1000 down to only 100 words.

You’ll find new material on our website, especially MicroLIt Almanac. We invite you to read new work by Heidi Barr, V. Hansmann, Ciaran Cooper, and Allison Renner.

We’ve concluded our Flowers of Evil Baudelaire video series on MicroLit Almanac with poems read by Cheryl Pappas, Judith Baumel, Jennifer Barber, Haolun Xu, MaxieJane Frazier, M.C. Armstrong, Peter Brown, Andrea Caswell, Andria Williams, and Cat Parnell. We hope you’ll dip into some of the readings.

Be well, friends. Go out and garden!
